View your Safety and Technical Certifications:

If you work under the Southeast Missouri (SEMO) Commercial and Industrial Contract you are required to obtain 8 hours of Safety Training and 8 hours of Technical Training each contract year; May 1 through April 30.  Even if you work for an Interior Systems Contractor this requirement is mandatory since interior systems falls under this contract.

The first 8 hours of technical training is due by April 30, 2012 and is tied to your wage increase May 1, 2012.  If you do not have the required 8 hours of technical training, not only will you not get the May 1, 2012 wage increase; actually you will be making less money per hour than the previous year.  This is due to the fact that whatever fringe increases that go into effect May 1, 2012 will be deducted from your wages that you made last year.

Example:

  • 5/1/11 – 4/30/12 Wage = $22.12
  • 5/1/12 – 4/30/13 Increase = $1.10
  • The following fringe increase for the 5/1/12 plan year is strictly an example for this illustration and should not be construed to reflect the actual fringe increase that will actually take place on 5/1/12.
  • Possible fringe increase with 5/1/12 plan year = $.80

Member with the appropriate 8 hours of safety training and 8 hours of technical training on May 1, 2012.

  • Beginning May 1, 2012 Wage Rate = $22.42

Member with the appropriate 8 hours of safety but does not have the 8 hours of technical training on May 1, 2012.

  • Beginning May 1, 2012 Wage Rate = $21.32

Maintain your Welding Certification:

If you have welding certifications you must maintain them to keep them current.  Only current certifications are listed in the training database for the Carpenters’ District Council of St. Louis.  An American Welding Society (AWS) certification is only valid for six-months; but the certification can be keep valid with proper documentation.

An explanation of the process follows:

  • Once you are tested, and passed a welding certification test at one of the training centers that is an AWS accredited testing center.  Either St. Louis, Belleville or Cape Girardeau are accredited testing centers.  You will be given a welding certification stamped by the Certified Welding Inspector at that center.
  • The training center then submits your welding certification to AWS of which the Carpenters’ District Council pays the $30.00 cost that AWS charges to process your certification and your application.
  • AWS then sends the qualified welder an AWS Certified Welder card, a sample of which is below on the first page.  On the front of the card is listed your name, your Certification number that has been assigned by AWS and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
  • You should carry this card with you and present to your Contractor.  You or your Contractor can access the AWS website to verify your certifications that are current.  The link to this site is:  http://www.aws.org/certification/cw_search.html  .

Once you receive this AWS card bring by one of the training centers so we can update the expiration date in the Carpenters’ District Council database.  THIS AWS CARD DATE IS THE PROCEDURE FOR KEEPING YOUR CERTIFICATION CURRENT.

The back of the AWS card lists the welding certifications that you are qualified in and the expiration date.

MAINTAINING YOUR CERTIFICATION:

  • The initial certification is only valid for six-months.
  • A “Maintenance of Welder Certification” form must be completed and returned to AWS prior to the expiration date.  A copy of this form is listed below and is available at this link:  http://www.aws.org/certification/docs/cw_cert_20110302.pdf  .

Anytime you receive a new expiration date, please bring a copy by one of the training centers in order to keep the Carpenters District Council training database current.

Contractors also access this database to check current training for members.
